Tips to Avoid Coughs and Colds During Umrah
Changing weather and crowds make coughs and colds spread easily. Good hygiene habits help you stay healthy while worshipping.

Coughs and colds are complaints pilgrims experience quite often. Drastic temperature changes between hot air outside and air-conditioned rooms, plus crowds of pilgrims from many countries, make these minor illnesses spread easily. Fortunately, many simple habits can reduce the risk.

Keeping your hands clean is the most basic step. Get into the habit of washing with soap, especially before eating and after touching objects in public areas. Carrying a small hand sanitiser helps greatly when access to water is limited. Avoid touching your face, particularly your nose and mouth, with unclean hands.

Wearing a mask in crowded places can reduce the risk of catching or passing on illness. Change the mask periodically so it stays clean and comfortable. This habit is simple yet quite effective, especially amid dense crowds during the main worship times.

Maintain your immunity with enough rest and regular meals. A tired, sleep-deprived body is more prone to illness. Eat nutritious food, meet your fluid needs, and if you are used to it, add vitamins as recommended. Keep warm with enough clothing when in very cold rooms.

Mind the temperature difference when moving between places. Leaving a very cold air-conditioned room for the hot air, or the reverse, can trigger a bodily reaction. Give yourself a brief pause to adjust, and prepare clothing that is easy to put on or take off as conditions require.

If you begin to feel unwell, rest at once and do not push yourself. Handling early symptoms is easier than letting them worsen. Bring simple medicine you usually use from home, and consult your group's health officer if the complaint continues.

Etiquette when coughing or sneezing also deserves attention for everyone's comfort. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of your elbow, then dispose of the tissue properly and clean your hands afterwards. This simple manner reflects care for fellow pilgrims and helps break the chain of transmission amid dense crowds.

By keeping clean, maintaining immunity, and being careful about weather changes, you can minimise the chance of being troubled by coughs and colds. A healthy body makes worship run more smoothly and pleasantly from start to finish.
